The Adventures of a SAHMCome on in and let me bore you |

October 07 This is so sad...I did forget about the very best that happened to us in the past year and I believe it's actually the reason I lost control of this page. The ex decided he didn't want his kid anymore so Steffen adopted her! As you can imagine that was a HUGE deal for us! Zoe was beyond happy and it's great now that we all share the same last name so I'll never have to explain to Little Man why his sister has a different name and all that crap. Yup...that's where I lost control...it was the beginning of October when I sent him his paperwork to terminate his rights as a parent and then I worked on the rest of the paperwork (yup, did it myself!) up until the day the adoption was final which was November 7th. I still can't believe that I survived so much stuff...the adoption, the move...ugh. It all worked out well though so I guess I can't complain. As you can imagine there was stuff that lead up to his giving his kid up and as soon as I find a peaceful moment I'll be sure to let ya all in on it. Suffice it to say that he's a jackass.
My Little Man is in Pre-K now. It's really the sweetest thing ever... He loves to go there (M,W & F) and he's recently come home and started singing songs that he's learning...it totally melts me. Other than that he's your everage 4 year old...thinks he knows everything and always pushing his luck with is 4 year old attitude. We're off to the Indy Zoo today which should be nice because the weather is really great right now. As much as I was happy to move here and have some snow I really don't care for the cold. In a perfect world we could have 80 degree weather AND snow at the same time. October 06 Yup...still aliveWow...it's been more than a year! I wish I had a really terrific excuse but...I don't. However, a lot has happened. We're living in the great state of Indiana now. I think that's when I lost control of this page...when the whole move thing started happening. Hubby was hired by Rolls Royce which is what brought us here and we actually moved on New Years Eve day. Our first whole day here was January 1, 2008...funny, huh? By some amazing stroke of luck we actually sold our house in TX on the first day that we had it listed with the realtor...it took about 4 hours actually...LOL I saw that as a sign that we were doing the right thing. How could it not be right though...better job, more money, closer to my family in MN, snow, etc. It really does feel like we did the right thing. We found a house and moved in on February 28th...it's a great house and I'll post some pics soon. The only bad thing about it is that it's used, pre-owned, whatever ya wanna call it and we've never done that before. We built our last 2 homes and the 2 places we lived in before that we happend to be the first people that lived there. So, it's strange having to deal with someone elses odd color choices and stuff like that, know what I mean?
Ugh...Little Man is bugging for something to eat so I best scoot for now...more soon. Really. No, I mean it, really.
Sanne September 26 Well...the goodie bags were a big hit...wahoo! Zoe's team has been on a winning streak which is great especially after last years losses. We all went to the San Antonio Zoo this past weekend and had a really great time. After the Zoo we decided to go see Transformers but Little Man decided he was too scared to go while we were still in the parking lot. We tried to get him to go but he declined so we went home. Zoe was disappointed of course and then to top it all off when we got home he decided that he did want to go to the movie (I thought Zoe was going to flip out!). So...I told him we could go to the next showing at 7 if he took a nap but...he didn't nap so we didn't go. Now...all week long he's been asking to see Transformers. As a matter of fact he woke up Monday morning, came to the top of the stairs, looked down at me and said "can we go see Transformers now?" It was cute. Little Man and I went to a playdate at Brackenridge Park yesterday so of course we took a train ride also...he loves that silly train! After that all the kids played at the park, ate lunch and then we fed the ducks. It was a nice way to spend the day. Zoe has a game on Thursday which should be a ton of fun. I'm signed up to work concessions at one of the games but can't remember which one...I did it with Tiffany last year and we had a great time. I have to plan something for us to do on Friday because Zoe doesn't have school that day...thinking, thinking, thinking. Anywho...I don't really know much else...I really will try to post more often. p.s. I didn't forget to post about my beloved Hogs...I just don't have a reason to post...they lost...I'm sad. Maybe they'll do better this week. September 17 Wow...what a game! After falling behind 21-0 the Hogs managed to get ahead in the 4th quarter and then lost the game in the last 30 seconds...we were jumping out of our seats watching! It was a terrific game...I only wish my team had won. Not much else is going on...Little Man and I are off to visit our friends Kimberly and Cooper as I'm going to use all of her Awesome Stampin Up! stuff to make goodie bags for the volleyball's team on Thursday...should be a ton of fun and Little Man and Coop love playing together.
I'll update more soon...
Sanne September 15 It's been a while...Zoe's team did really well at their scrimmage...they won both games...wahoo! It's amazing how much better they play this year compared to last...wow!! We went to her tournament today in New Braunfels...they played 3 games. They won both games against Barnes and AJB but lost both games against New Braunfels, however, NB has an amazing team and on the second game they only lost by a score of 25 - 23...they certainly have a lot to be proud of! Her next game is on Thursday against AJB and I'm the goodie bag mom so I'm totally geeked...LOL
Well...our beloved Hogs play tonight agains the Alabama Crimson Tide...I'm going out on a limb and saying that we win by AT LEAST 2 touchdowns...GO HOGS GO!!!
Not much else is going on so I'll close for now and I'll really try not to be such a slacker anymore :o)
Sanne
September 06 Let the games begin...Today is Zoe's first Volleyball game...it doesn't count towards the season as it's a scrimmage but it'll be fun to watch her all the same. I'll try to remember my camera for a change and take some pics to post.
Little Man and I went to Chuck E. Cheese today and had a ton of fun as usual. I wish I had more to write but I really don't...what a boring and uneventful life I lead....LOL
I'll post again tonight or tomorrow and let you know the outcome of the game.
Sanne
September 01 Crazy Football Brain...in the midst of my temporary football insanity I forgot to tell ya'll that not only did Zoe make the volleyball team but she's on the A Team!!! She is SO excited!!! We're really proud of her It's a Good Day!The Arkansas Razorback football season is now officially under way and off to a terrific start. Unfortunately, living here in Texas it's hard to get much Razorback coverage but we did find a Troy online radio station that broadcast the game so we were able to at least listen to the first wonderful win of the season. We'll be able to see the Alabama game on
ESPN in two weeks so that'll be a great day for us. Other interesting football happenings of the day: Michigans loss to Appalachian State...Appa who you say? If ya wanna read about it you can go here...it's always great to see the underdogs win! Congrats Mountaineers!!! Also, the Virginia Tech Hokies won their game today...I can imagine that it was a hard game to play and they played well...Go Hokies! That's all I have for ya'll today...our beloved Hogs won...what a great start to a long weekend! August 29 I'm a wreck...All I can think about is Zoe being at her tryouts...ugh...I sure hope she makes the team because she'll be so disappointed if she doesn't I'll let ya'll know how it goes...
Zoe...had a terrific first and second day of school...wahoo! She really likes all of her teachers and classes so life is good. Volleyball tryouts were yesterday and again today. They're going to post the results on the web tonight at 6:30...she's a wreck. It's supposed to rain this week..ugh. I took Little Man to the pool the other day with his new goggles and he loves them. He swims underwater so much better with them. Not much is really going on these days so I guess I'll close for now. I hope everyone has a great week and if ya pop by leave me a comment so I know you were here :o) August 26 Ok...I give up!I can't do it...I absolutely can not find the time these days to sit down and write about my whole entire trip to Germany. I know that's bad but come on...I'm not exactly an author here...LOL So, suffice it so say that the trip was absolutely WONDERFUL! I mssed my family like mad but it was really nice to have no one to worry about but myself. I could go to bed when I wanted, get up when I wanted, eat what and when I wanted and had nobody's butt to wipe but my own...LOL!
The short version of the trip would be as follows:
1) International First Class Rocks!
2) They lost my luggage for 5 days
3) Due to #2 I had to wear borrowed clothing to my sisters wedding
4) My sister was a GORGEOUS bride
5) The wedding was AMAZING
6) I'm absolutely in love with my niece Lea
7) JFK airport has THE BEST first class lounge
8) The airport in Frankfurt Germany has the WORST first class lounge ever...LOL
9) I was more than happy to be back home
And...to top it all of...5 days after I got home Zoe came back from her summer visit to MN. Life was complete again :o)
Tomorrow is the first day of school and as you can imagine this is pretty big in the life of an 8th grade girl. She has picked the perfect outfit completed by todays purchase...the absolute, most awesome shoes ever (as she stated). She had been wanting a pair of plaid Converse All Stars for quite some time and she finally got them. Funny thing is we weren't even going to Kohls for the shoes, we were there for a plaid backpack (are ya catching on to the plaid them here?). After looking for the backpack and (to her dismay) not finding the one she had in mind we walked past the shoe aisle and there they were, the most awesome pink and green plaid shoes ever. Fortunately they were also on sale so life is good for both of us I guess.
To "end the summer" we went to Sea World today and hung out like beach bums all day long at the water park. It was great and one of the best things was that Little Man swam underwater for the fitst time and all of us were there to see it...can't beat that I guess :o) I guess I'll close for now. I hope everyone has a great week! Sanne p.s. Jess...if you're still out there...I still can't mention the secret...LOL! p.p.s HI BOB!!! p.p.p.s (is that right and is there such a thing???) I solemnly promise never to let there be such a lag in posting again :o) July 24 I'm back!!!Just a quickie to let everyone know that I've made it home in one piece. I'll post all about my trip ASAP...
On another note...my friend Mimi lost her battle to cancer this past Sunday. She was the kind of friend that everyone wished they could have and I was fortunate enough to have been one of her friends. Mimi left behind 2 boys, Clay and Spencer, along with a ton of family and friends and we're all going to miss her.
Sanne July 02 Freakin' spiderSo I was just putting in the last load of laundry for the day and I reach into the hamper and what almost crawls on to my hand? You guessed it...a big old hairy spider. Practically a tarantula...yuck. Of course I scream and then stand there for a minute contemplating how I'm going to kill it. I decide that a broom and a shoe should do the trick. Next step was to find it again. I cautiously opened the hamper and poked around a bit then moved the hamper to see the spider on the litter box...damned thing. Before I can get to it it ran under my washing machine so now I'm all freaked out about standing in the laundry toom to finsih loading the machine. I guess that can be hubby's job while I'm gone...find and execute that spider.
We had Little Man at the Urgent Care Clinic last night. His cough has not let up and was much worse yesterday then after he went to bed he coughed so hard he threw up everywhere so we took him in to see if there was anything they could do. Now, along with treating him for allergies and asthma, they're also treating him for sinusitis. Poor kid...he's a walking pharmacy...LOL
I've been really overwhelmed with getting ready for this trip and would seriously forget my head if it weren't attached...I hate being this way. I'm also a bit uneasy about flying right now...so many crazies in the world.
Anywho...wish me luck :o) I'll be sure to post just as soon as I get back!
Take care all!
Sanne June 28 Quick updateOnly 5 more days until I go on my trip...wahoo! I have little lists everywhere to remind me of everything which is probably good because most days I think I'd forget my head if it wasn't attached. I'm going to miss my Little Man like crazy...ugh. I'll miss the hubby too but somehow the kids are different. The best part of the trip might just be that when I get home it'll be only 5 days and Zoe will be back and life can get back to normal.
The weather here has been real crappy...rain, rain and more rain. There have been flash flood warnings all day and yesterday also. From what I understand Austin has had a lot of problems.
The secret...still can't mention it.
Not much else is going on...I'll be sure to post one more time at least before I leave.
Take care!
Sanne
June 27 Well...I still can't tell anyone what my secret is (sorry Jess) as the timing just isn't right. Soon though...soon.
I'm slowly getting ready for my trip next week. I have lists everythwere of things to buy, things to do and things to pack. To complicate matters, rather than keep my butt at home I'm off to playdates today, tomorrow and Friday. I have a hair appointment on Saturday and have to squeeze a nail appointment in somewhere also.
Though I'm going to miss my family tremendously I'm kind of looking forward to this trip. I really look forward to spending some time with my grandparents. My sister called yesterday to ask me to find a certain pair of shoes for my niece...she's going to e-mail me a picture today so wish me luck on finding those.
Tomorrow is my brother's birthday...he'll be 30. Unfortunately, we don't talk much. We call each other on our birthdays which is essentially once a year because our birthdays are only 9 days apart. He's a great guy...very soft hearted, will bend over backwards for anyone. When I cry because I'm homesick he's a major part of that...my brother is the one that brings me to tears. Often I'm surprised that he's still alive as he leads kind of a reckless life and I find myself sad for him because he'll be 30 tomorrow yet he doesn't really have much to show for his life. His greatest accomplishment would have to be his son. He never married the mom...as much as I like them together they're a bit toxic. I don't know, I'm rambling. I just want him to realize that life has so much to offer and he's missing the best parts of it by not buckling down and growing up I have a playdate to get ready for...more later.
Sanne June 22 My one and only wish...while I'm gone is that everyone that stops here leaves a message...even if it's just a Hi. I can see that a ton of people stop by but no one ever says anything..come on...you can do it :o)
Sanne Secret, secret...I've got a secretWell, we're heading off tomorrow morning for a secret location on a secret mission that I'm unable to talk about...LOL We're both really excited because it should turn out to be a really good trip...keep your fingers crossed for us :o)
Little Man will be staying with my friend Shayna tonight and then with Christy tomorrow and Sunday night. I'm sure he'll do really well as he's with his little buddies from our SAHM group in both homes.
I talked to Zoe yesterday...small update on her. We got a call last Sunday from her MN parents and she apparently had left her journal laying out and they read it. Suffice it to say it did not say many nice things about them and their feelings are hurt. Upon hearing what she wrote I was rather shocked myself because apparently my little girl has the mouth (or mind as she never really SAID any of this stuff she just wrote it) of a sailor on her! We told them that we would back any punishment they see fit and that we would discuss it with her also. She called here on Monday and we discussed everything...she's grounded for at least a week, no tv, no PSP, no Nano, no friends, she had to rewrite or tear out those journal entries and write letters of apology to both parents. She was feeling pretty puny when she called here. Now, I know a lot of you may be thinking "why did the read her journal?!?!?!" Well...inside the front cover it said "Stay the f*ck out" Yup...I would have kept reading also...call me a bad mom if you will but that would have peaked my curiosity just a bit too much. Anywho...it's over.
I guess I better stop typing now and actually begin packing and getting ready to get out of here. Our flight leaves at 6 a.m. tomorrow and I don't want to be up all night packing.
Come back Tuesday as there may be an interesting entry....
Have a great weekend everyone!
Sanne
June 18 Our Awesome WeekendI have the best husband ever! He called me from work Friday afternoon and suggested that we go to South Padre Island for the weekend. So...when he came home from work we packed up and hit the road. Firday night we drove about half way there and stayed in Kingsville and then got up Saturday morning and finished the trip which is only about 5 hours to begin with. We stayed at the Sheraton which was overpriced but they had the nicest pool. When we first got to the island it was too early for us to be able to check in so we went to eat at Blackbeard's Restaurant...the food was terrific. We both tried Mahi Mahi for the first time...yummy :o) After that we went to a couple of beach stores looking for a cover up for me to wear to the pool. Once I found something we went to the hotel about an hour before our check in time and we were able to get in to our room...wahoo! The hotel was really beautiful but the pictures of the pool on their website are a bit deceptive. They were apparently taken some time ago because everything shown on the website to the right side of the pool (trees, shrubs, anything green) is now a parking lot. There's also a lot of construction going on because they're in the middle of building the Sapphire Condominiums. Other than that everything was great. The pool was awesome and the beach was even better! This was Little Man's first time in the ocean and he loved it! The only scary part is that at his age he doesn't realize how dangerous those waves can be even if the water is only shin deep. After we checked in we went to the pool and the beach and then back to the room to let LM nap. He really needed it because he was up late the night before and really early that morning. After his nap we got dressed and found a place to eat. We ended up at the Sea Ranch Restaurant. The food was absolutely terrific!!! We both ordered Pirate Dan's platter which was a broiled combo of fish, shrimp and scallops...by far the best we've ever eaten! **Small side note - On the way into the restaurant as we were walking through the parking lot a couple was walking to their car and it happened to be a friend of mine from San Antonio...small world!**
After dinner we went back to the hotel where LM watched movies for a while and hubby and I sat on our balcony listening to the waves and watching people act like morons in the parking lot. This hotel has pretty limited parking in the lot right in front of the hotel but if you can't find a spot there then you can park in the parking garage and they bring you to the hotel with a golf cart. Well, apparently this is too much for people to grasp so they drive around and around and around the lot looking for spots and when they can't find one they make one...how ridiculous!
As we had had a full day it didn't take LM long to fall asleep and we stayed out on the balcony until about midnight when we finally decided to pack it in.
The next morning we were up bright and early and hit the pool and beach...it was the perfect weather for it...just awesome! After that we went to the room, showered, got dressed and went to a champagne brunch in the restaurant in the hotel. As you can imagine the brunch was awesome. They had EVERYTHING...peel and eat shrimp, oysters, smoked salmon, caviar, pasta salads, an omelet and waffle bar, chicken, eggs benedict, a dessert table, etc, etc, etc. After we stuffed ourselves we went on a dolphin watching tour. LM had been asking to go the whole day before so we decided to take him and it was really great. They also did an eco tour where they pull a net behind the boat for a while and then bring it up to see what critters they've caught. Unfortunatley they didn't catch but 2 small things...a blue crab and an ocean perch but...LM touched the perch and has been telling anyone and everyone that will listen that he touched Nemo...LOL. After that we stopped at the Port Isabel Lighthouse and took some pictures from there.
After the light house it was almost 3 and we decided it was time to go home. My only regret about the whole weekend was that Zoe wasn't there to enjoy it with us. We do hope to make it back there when she gets back from MN though :o)
There...that was our weekend in a nutshell...just enough excitement to keep things interesting. I hope everyone has a great week!
Sanne June 15 The Spurs DynastyGO SPURS GO! Wahoo! They did it. The San Antonio Spurs swept the Cleveland Cavaliers to win the NBA Finals! Now LeBron James can spend more time with his new son :o) It wasn't the best game of basketball that I've ever watched but the end was certainly close and exciting. It's almost a shame that the Finals are now over because we really enjoy watching. I'm thinking that there has got to be some awesome karma or something around Tony Parker...that man is living a charmed life right now...his team just won the NBA Finals, he won the MVP award and in less than a month he's marrying Eva Longoria...he can't possibly want for anything more!
Something that I found interesting about this team is that while Michael Finley, after 12 years in the NBA, just got his first Finals win last night but on the other hand you have Robert Horry who has been in the NBA for 15 years and he just got his 7th win last night. Seven rings and ten fingers...he gonna go for more? I sure hope so! I could go on forever writing about the different players but I don't want to bore anyone...I just found that interesting.
Just like the Arkansas Razorbacks will forever be our favorite college football team the Spurs will be our favorite NBA team no matter where we should ever end up. Not only are they a good team but they're really good people. We were watching the news last night and people were pouring to the downtown area at 11 pm to celebrate...crazy. Also, all the Academy stores opened up to sell the shirts, hats, etc...I think I can wait to get mine but I guess I understand that everyone wants them for work today and what-not.
The Party. Well...after beginning my morning in total panic everything ended really well. We ended up going to Christy's pool. I bought the lifeguards some fresh fruit and offered up some of our food and everything was good to go...LOL! It really was great! We had an awesome turnout and everyone had a great time. The party started at 1 pm and ended at about 4:30. Little Man had a total blast playing with his friends, eating, "blowing out fire" and opening gifts. I think his very favorite gift is the Spongebob Squarepants Play-Doh set that he got from my friend Shayna. He's been playing with it since he opened it and it's the first thing he did this morning when he woke up.
Christy got him one of those little t-ball games where you set the ball on top and whack it or it'll pitch it to you...he hasn't played with that yet but when he does I think he'll really enjoy that also.
Anywho...that's it for now...I have to go out and buy a gift for a party we have to go to tonight.
Sanne June 14 The Party Detailsare going to have to wait as right now I have to go watch the Spurs play the Cavs. Wait...did I say play? Oh, I meant to say BEAT! And this beating will mean...can we say it? A sweep! Wahoo!
More later!
Sanne I'm having a major meltdown!Apparently the Splashpad is closed to the Public from 1-4 which wouldn't be a problem except for my sons party is at the Splashpad at 1:00...great. Take a deep breath Sanne. Breath. Breath. There, if none of you ever hear from me again it's because the breathing didn't help and the meltdown did, in fact, occur.
I called the people in charge of the pool for our neighborhood and they won't let me bring extra guests...next time I'll just sneak them all in and not ask...see what I get for asking?! Fortunately, my friend Christy's pool doesn't have a limit on number of guests you can bring however it's at the lifeguards discretion so I'm getting ready to go get some lifeguard bribe money/fruit basket so that things go smooth with that...LOL
Anyways...I hope everyone has a better day than I'm having so far. Did I mention that I found out about the Splashpad within 5 minutes of getting out of bed today...this IS NOT a good way to start a day. What next...a thunderstorm?
Sanne June 13 3-0The Spurs won again last night putting them ahead 3-0 in the series...one game to go...wahoo! However, the certainly did not play their best last night. They had GREAT defense but their offense could use some serious help. I'm going to chalk it up to playing an away game and just getting their footing :o) The next game will be better. So...if you're not a Spurs fan...convert now...they're the best in league these days but somehow are still completely under rated.
I have to do birthday party supply shopping today and bake a ton of cupcakes...only problem is trying to diet and not eat the cupcakes...dilemma...LOL
Oh yeah...I have a favorite new show. Top Chefs. I discovered season 2 on Bravo! on Sunday and really enjoyed it...especially since I could watch the whole season one right after another and not have to wait a week between episodes. Season 3 starts tonight and the DVR is already set to record. In my wildest dreams I'd be able to cook like that. Don't get me wrong...I can cook really well but not like THAT. I'd love to be able to learn more about spices and wines and what brings what tastes out. Maybe I just need to school myself for a while and see what I come up with. The only other problem I have is that I tend to think that everything should be cooked on high heat and get done in 30 minutes or less...guess I'm not really ready for culinary school, huh? LOL
Anywho...I hope you all have a great day. More tomorrow after the big bash :o)
Sanne June 12 Just stuffWell...for those of you that haven't been watching, the Spurs won again Sunday night...wahoo! I guess a win is a win but at one point in the game the Spurs were up by 30 points and then they ended up winning by only 11...not so good really. Part of me wants them to get in there for the next 2 games and shut this play-off thing down but I also feel that winning is much better at home than away...know what I mean?
On to other things...Little Man's party is on Thursday and I'm getting all geeked for that. First it was postponed because I'm a oron then it was postponed because we're going out of town so finally it's here. I'm going to bring lunch for everyone and bake cupcakes (my favorite ones...chocolate cupcake with chocolate chip cookie on the inside...YUMMY!)
I leave for my trip 3 weeks from today...wahoo! I'm getting pretty geeked over that too. I can't wait to see my sister and go to her wedding but I'm really excited about seeing my grandparents. As far as grandparents go I think I got the pick of the litter. Unfortunately, due to my parents moving from Germany to the US when I was a kid, I was never able to have the relationship with them that I really wanted. They're such terrific people. I enjoy talking to my grandma about WWII because she lived it in Germany as a teenage girl...much different than talking to someone here about it that never went there. War is looked at much differntly when it takes place upon your ground.
The only REALLY hard thing abouot seeing them is that each time I leave to come back home I never know if this was the last time that I'll see them. This makes leaving very hard. Ah...enough of that. I love 'em and can't wait to spend some time with them!
Not much else is going on...I'm going to get dressed and take Little Man out for our daily walk and then come home and hit the pool for a while. We went last night from 7 to almost 9 and had a blast. He actually even slept until almost 8:30 today which he rarely does.
I hope everyone has a great week and I'll post more after the big party along with some pictures.
Sanne June 07 GO SPURS GO!!!I'm not a HUGE Spurs fan but living in San Antonio it's impossible not to get sucked into Spurs mania. We're watching the game right now and it's going ok but our boys better get to playing a bit better. Guess we'll see what the night brings us.
GO SPURS GO!!! |
Wonderful site!
